Today, DoorDash is excited to announce a major milestone: five and a half years and 360 million miles of deliveries later, we are the first on-demand destination to offer food delivery in all 50 states! Accelerating Our Momentum

By all accounts, 2018 has been a breakout year for DoorDash. We grew 250% YOY — more than tripling our business — to become the fastest growing last mile logistics company in the U.S., according to Edison Trends. Our geographic footprint nearly doubled since January to more than 1,000 cities across the U.S and Canada. We’re on pace to reach 2,000 cities by the end of the year, serving 200 million Americans. Leading the industry in selection, we added more top 100 restaurants to our platform than all other industry players combined, including national favorites like Chipotle, IHOP, Red Lobster and White Castle, while signing exclusively with The Cheesecake Factory last month. Building on the incredible momentum of DoorDash Drive, we announced a national grocery delivery partnership with Walmart that has now expanded to nearly 300 stores in 20 states in the last four months. Last week we debuted the DashPass subscription service and Pickup feature to generate even greater value for our merchant partners, while driving stronger loyalty among our customers with lower prices. Through Project Dash, we saved over 30,000 pounds of food to combat food waste. We grew our talented team by over 250 people in offices across the country, and welcomed key executives, including Chief People Officer, Sarah Wagener and Chief Financial Officer, Prabir Adarkar. To help us capitalize on this momentum, we are excited to share that we have closed $250 million in a growth round co-led by Coatue Management and DST Global, valuing the company at $4 billion. As we grow, we will stay true to our values and our mission of connecting people with possibility — and, trust us, we’re just getting started.

Launching the Future of Autonomous Delivery with Cruise Automation

At DoorDash, we’ve always viewed delivery as the intersection of a math problem and a human problem. Experimentation is in our DNA. That’s why today, we’re pleased to announce our partnership with General Motors’ Cruise Automation, an industry leader in autonomous vehicles. Starting in early 2019, DoorDash and Cruise will test the first food deliveries using autonomous vehicles in San Francisco. Together with Cruise, we’re looking to answer three primary questions: What key technical and infrastructure challenges exist with autonomous delivery? How can autonomous delivery positively impact merchants, dashers, and customers? Are autonomous vehicles capable of achieving the same quality standards DoorDash customers have come to know and love? We’re kicking off our pilot in San Francisco, a complex and intricate city where Cruise has been testing vehicles for the past three years. To begin, we’ve built a runner system to move orders from the merchant to the autonomous vehicle. Then, the customer will be notified when the autonomous vehicle is approaching the customer address. In partnership with Cruise Automation, we look forward to scaling and improving the delivery experience for our merchants, dashers, and customers.
