As Las Vegas has been working to recover from the events of October 1, those of us here on the DoorDash Las Vegas team have been working to support the community in our own way. Together with our restaurant partners, we are delivering meal donations to victims, first responders and others that have been impacted by this tragedy. For example, this week we teamed up with Streets of New York Pizza to donate meals to more than 1,000 families and volunteers at the Family Assistance Center in the Las Vegas Convention Center. We’re also working with Opportunity Village to identify other communities that may need food and other supplies. We’ve set aside resources to continue to support the community with meal donations. Launching the Future of Autonomous Delivery with Cruise Automation

At DoorDash, we’ve always viewed delivery as the intersection of a math problem and a human problem. Experimentation is in our DNA. That’s why today, we’re pleased to announce our partnership with General Motors’ Cruise Automation, an industry leader in autonomous vehicles. Starting in early 2019, DoorDash and Cruise will test the first food deliveries using autonomous vehicles in San Francisco. Together with Cruise, we’re looking to answer three primary questions: What key technical and infrastructure challenges exist with autonomous delivery? How can autonomous delivery positively impact merchants, dashers, and customers? Are autonomous vehicles capable of achieving the same quality standards DoorDash customers have come to know and love? We’re kicking off our pilot in San Francisco, a complex and intricate city where Cruise has been testing vehicles for the past three years. To begin, we’ve built a runner system to move orders from the merchant to the autonomous vehicle. Then, the customer will be notified when the autonomous vehicle is approaching the customer address. In partnership with Cruise Automation, we look forward to scaling and improving the delivery experience for our merchants, dashers, and customers. We are deeply disturbed by the treatment of a Caviar Courier who was arrested last night while performing essential work in New York City, and we are relieved that he was released. We are in contact with the Courier and have offered our support. The health and safety of our community is a priority and we will continue to offer legal, financial, medical, and mental health support to Dashers and Couriers if they are wrongly arrested for violating the curfew in connection with their work on our app. We remain committed to protecting Dashers and Couriers who continue to serve on the frontlines and are authorized to access critical earnings opportunities on our platform while providing food to those in need. We have been in active conversations with officials in New York City and beyond to help ensure Dashers and Couriers can continue to perform deliveries and travel to and from work under the current local laws without fear of being harassed, detained, or arrested. We will continue to actively monitor the situation at a city level and provide real-time information to Dashers and Couriers to alert them where we are suspending operations in response to local curfews or to protect their safety.
